Shabby Shabby...

What's your favorite take on Shabby Chic?!
I have always been a fan of this particular style - minus the heavy foofy fabrics.
Shabby reminds me of beautiful old European/American shaker homes, filled with beautiful reclaimed items with history.  I love the funny side table built by a humble farmer, or the old patina light fixture hanging in the entry way.  I love the find - the one-of-a-kind item you only see once!
In the 1980's Great Britain inspired this design, from their old country houses full of shaded items.  Travel into Sweden and France, you get the same ideas only with different shades/hues of color.
Once you find that special one-of-a-kind piece, they become heirlooms forever!

The queen of it all Rachel Ashwell has brought beautiful insights through her amazing books and stores! She is the perfect example of someone who design's from their heart to create timeless, luxurious beauty!
So if you're wanting this particular design, her books are the perfect inspiration!

  1. I really like Shabby chic but without the flowery details. That first photo is definitely my style because living in the South my decoration is more West Indies meets the Shabby chich but only the whites and muted tones parts, green fronds, etc.

  2. loving the shabby of course! the last images is one of my favorite kitchens of all time...belonging to photographer Amy Neunsinger. It is so timeless, pretty, and functional. I love that you mention the historical roots of this look because that's the key, it's not so much a trend as a way of life.

    smiles to you, gorgeous.

  3. I tend to like what I call more of a European faded chic instead of truly shabby. I picture an evolved patina of timeworn grandeur without the flowery elements. I have all of Rachel's books and she is definitely a decorating pioneer. I really like the 9th photo of the dining space.

  6. OMG I love that kitchen in the last image! I actually own some of Rachel's furniture but changed out the pastel print slipcover to something a little bolder. She has wonderful ideas and love how she puts things together.

    Enjoy your weekend!
    Hugs!

  8. I love looking at images of shabby chic, but I really like to see it mixed with a contemporary flair. Even a little industrial look.
